Hello everyone!
For week 10 I have a very BIG reason: my family. I have two very supportive parents and a brother and sister who both inspire me every day (even if I am the butt of all family jokes… let’s be honest, I deserve them!). Beyond my wonderful nuclear family, I have an amazing extended family… emphasis on EXTENDED. My mom is one of 13 siblings and my dad is one of 5; I have 68 first cousins (63 on Mom’s side alone!) and over 130 first cousins once removed – and that doesn’t even include the many awesome spouses! Many of these cousins are more than family members: they’re friends. Actually, they’re frousins. :) I know that I’m really, really lucky to have so many people who happen to be related to me but also happen to be people I would actually choose to hang out with. It’s hard to be lonely when there are 200 relatives on call 24/7 to boost your spirits! When I hear stories of families who don’t speak to each other for years or have longstanding feuds, I can only be thankful that we’ve never had that kind of problem. The best part of having a huge family is knowing how many people have your back at any given moment; God forbid I ever need a liver or a kidney, I’m pretty sure I’d be all set in about five minutes. Similarly, I’ve had such an amazing outpouring of support from my cousins since I started the marathon training. From frousins who have run several marathons who can offer tons and tons of great advice (hi, Julie and Shaun!) to aunts and uncles who haven’t run a mile in years but still think I’m great (albeit a little crazy), I’ve really felt the love. I can only hope that they know that I'd also do just about anything for each and every one of them! I love you all!
This week’s training was great! I am still slower than I’d like but very steady with no major aches and pain, so I’ll take it. The weather was GORGEOUS yesterday – 55 degrees and sunny. It felt amazing, and I decided to make a deal with Mother Nature: I promise to eat right and go on every single training run if she promises to make the weather on April 21 exactly the same. Deal? I hope so!!
Fundraising update: I’m at 36% of my goal, and starting near the home stretch. If you are on the fence about giving but you are related to me, perhaps this little blog post will be a little catalyst: if you’ve already given, please know how grateful I am for your support! Thank you everyone!
Until next week,
Meg
