Hi everyone!
Another Sunday, another blog post. This week’s reason is pretty strong: my running friends. As I said when I started this blog, I was not someone who grew up running; it’s a new hobby I started as a fully grown 30 year old. There is no way I would have become as involved in running as I have without certain friends who pushed me along the way. There is Kevin, who despite the fact that his favorite phrase is “I’m not a runner,” is training for his fourth marathon. Kev, watching you down a beer at Mile 22 was one of the most inspiring yet dumb things I’ve ever seen. Kevin and his fiancée Gretchen also were the ones who got me involved in our running club, NACHO. Whereas some running clubs may focus a ton on times and training and intensity, NACHO focuses on finding the best races with free beer at the end; these are my people. There are many others who have encouraged me along the way – Elizabeth who inspired me to do my first 10k, Kim who pushed me to do my first marathon, Kelly who despite being an incredible athlete herself never avoids the chance to praise one of my times, and countless others who have helped me along the way. The best part of becoming a runner, in my opinion, is the opportunity to get to know so many fellow runners. I never realized what a supportive and encouraging community it is and I feel so lucky to be counted among them.
For a training update, the weather has been tough around here (negative 20 wind-chill a couple of mornings this week) making outdoor runs tough or impossible. In annoying news, I went for a 10 mile run yesterday and noticed a new and intriguing (sad face) pain in my left knee; hoping that a couple of days of rest and wearing a brace the next time I run will help to heal it. It’s a little frustrating that just as one injury or illness heals itself, another one arises; I guess this is what it’s like to be in my thirties!!
Fundraising update: I am JUST BARELY under the $2,000 mark towards my $7,000 goal. With just about 3 months to go, I feel like I’m in pretty good shape, as long as the generosity of my friends and family continues the way it has (you guys are the best!!). Please feel free to make a donation by hitting the button at the top of this page. As always, thank you so much for your support!
Until next week,
Meg
