Hello friends!
Welcome to week 8! This week’s reason may remind you of a silly Morgan Freeman movie, but I’d like to think that it matters: for my bucket list. When I was little, I remember making lists of things I wanted to do when I grew up; the bullet points ranged from “learn to speak French” to “go skydiving” to “sing in Symphony Hall” to “run a marathon” to “marry a foreigner.” (Really. No, I have no idea.) I remember thinking that I would definitely complete all those goals, because why not? Life seems pretty limitless when you’re looking at it from the age of ten. Now that I’m older I have learned that some dreams are never meant to come true for me, while others (sadly) might have been if I had put my mind to them. I never sang in Symphony Hall, and I (humbly) believe that I might have, if things had gone slightly differently in life. It might not be too late to learn French. It’s definitely not too late to marry a foreigner (?!), although I don’t know if that’s something I should really focus on as a goal these days... I will NEVER go skydiving, because I hate heights and this actually doesn’t seem important AT ALL anymore. But amazingly, of all the things I dreamed of doing as a child, on April 21, 2014, I will most certainly run 26.2 miles. I may have many years left to do lots of things, but it feels good to get something significant checked off my list while I’m still young. Life is uncertain and short, full of obstacles, naysayers and limitations both mental and physical. However it is also full of surprises, ambition, good luck, hard work and willpower. I’m depending on the latter to check this one thing off my bucket list.
This week’s training went fairly well; we had some warmer weather and (finally) a little melting. However, with the melting came puddles, and by puddles I mean LAKES IN THE SIDEWALK. Yesterday’s long run (15 miles) was incredibly slow because of all the hopping and sloshing, not to mention the blisters that formed in my wet socks. Yuck – here’s to the snow, ice and slush going away ASAP, leaving us with a nice dry spring!
Fundraising update: slowly but surely progressing, but as we hit the two month mark I will begin asking more of you to donate to this great cause at Mass General: the pediatric hematology/oncology program. I dare you to find a more compelling reason to click “donate”! For those who have already made a gift, I send you my continued thanks. :)
Until next week,
Meg
